Most of our clients have never worked with an interior designer before and are curious about how the process works. Here’s what you can expect from your project whether it’s large or small - the process is the same!
meet
We meet to discuss your project requirements, understand your goals and get a sense of your budget and timeline. This is your chance to tell us everything: how your family lives, your stylistic preferences, and even your pet peeves (trust us, we’ve heard it all). The more information you can give us in this first meeting, no matter how small, the better we can tailor our future suggestions to you. We’ll also take measurements and photos of your space. Expect our first meeting to last at least an hour with you. Measurements can take anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours depending on the size of the project.
concept
We start our concept phase by synthesizing all of the information gathered during our initial meeting into a full project scope and direction. Based on our understanding of your needs, we put together a conceptual package that includes: furniture plans and architectural layouts that take practicality and flow into account, imagery to communicate your style and color palette, and an initial budget spreadsheet. Each of these items becomes part of the roadmap that allows us to nail your full design package with as few adjustments as possible. No furniture selections will be made during this phase, rather it helps us confirm our understanding of your goals and style preferences clearly before heading into the longer design phase. You may think, why can’t we just skip to picking out our furniture? But actually this step is crucial in confirming your project is headed in the right direction. It helps save time and money in the long run because we’re focused and have a common understanding of your goals. This phase typically takes 2-3 weeks depending on the size of your project.
design
Once we have that conceptual road map, we begin picking out all of your specific furniture, lighting and decorative pieces for each space. We present detailed furniture plans and/or architectural plans, fabric and material samples and images each piece in each room. This is an exciting moment to touch and feel your materials and start to see the future of your home. There are typically two options presented for each room. If there’s anything that doesn’t speak to you, we’ll continue to adjust until you love your design. This phase can take anywhere from a few weeks for smaller project to a few months for larger projects and potentially longer for renovations. Prompt and detailed feedback is key to keeping this phase running smoothly and quickly. You should expect at least two to three meetings during this phase and often more for larger projects and renovations.
finalize
Once you’re happy with every detail of your space, we turn our layouts and selections into detailed documents for purchasing and construction. Behind the scenes we’re getting quotes from vendors, arranging delivery details and finalizing hundreds of small decisions for you. From the type of hinges used on your cabinets to bulb types for each fixture, we’re handling it all. These details get translated into construction documents for renovations and purchase orders for all of your furnishings. This phase can take anywhere from two to four weeks to finalize all of your documents.
implement
Once we’ve done the work of crossing our T’s and dotting our I’s it’s time to get going with the exciting part! We place all of your furniture and material orders with a eye on sequencing the timeline of deliveries appropriately. Much of your furniture will get sent to a receiving warehouse where they are pros at unpacking, checking for damage and storing your items safely. For renovation projects, we oversee construction with weekly contractor meetings and coordinate with vendors such as architects, millworkers, drapery makers, and more. We create project timelines, manage budgets, and ensure the work is progressing smoothly and according to plan. Letting us manage this phase of your project takes the stress off of you, knowing your project is in capable hands.
close out
As your construction is wrapping up, we put together final punch lists for the contractor and oversee that all of their work is finalized. Your furniture will be installed from our receiving warehouse and put into place by trained professionals. We put the finishing touches on your home by hanging art, fluffing pillows, and styling bookshelves. It’s time to put up your feet, relax and enjoy your new home.
