FAQs
Most of our clients have never worked with an interior designer. They have a lot of questions and you probably do too! Here are a few of the most common questions we get. If we haven’t answered your question here, please reach out to us.
what is it like to work with an interior designer?
We work closely with you to understand your vision, needs, and lifestyle, creating a cohesive design tailored to your personal style. Many clients appreciate how we simplify decision-making and guide their project with expertise and care.
What type of clients do you work with?
Our clients are often busy professionals or families who want a beautiful, functional home but don’t have the time or expertise to design it themselves. They appreciate having a trusted partner to simplify decisions, narrow options, and bring their vision to life seamlessly.
Will I get choices?
Absolutely. We typically present two thoughtfully selected options for each element, tailored to your style and needs. If the initial options don’t feel right, we’ll refine them until we find the perfect fit for your space.
What is the design process like?
Every project begins with understanding your practical needs, space layout, and style preferences. We create a tailored design plan with furniture layouts, color palettes, and material samples. Over a series of meetings, we refine the details together, ensuring the final design reflects your vision. Learn more about our process here.
How do we begin a project with Petra Designs?
Start with a free 15-30 minute discovery call where we discuss your project location, budget, style preferences, and goals. After this, we’ll send you a proposal for design services tailored to your needs.
What is the timeline for a design project?
Projects typically take 6-9 months, but larger renovations can take longer. Tight deadlines? Let us know early, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
What is your project minimum?
Our minimum is a $50K investment in design and furnishings, typically covering two rooms. We’ll help you establish a realistic budget and source high-quality items that fit your vision.
Do you mark up the goods you purchase?
No, we believe your investment should go toward our expertise, not added costs.
Can I keep my existing furniture?
Absolutely! Sentimental or valuable pieces can anchor the design, but we’ll be honest about items that no longer fit your space or style.
What areas do you serve?
We work throughout the New York Metro area, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
What about the little touches?
We hold space in your budget for art, accents, and styling items. Before completing the project, we’ll hang art, fluff pillows, and style your shelves to perfection.
